The time has come for my monthly portfolio update. At the end of every month, I will update my portfolio and comment on any changes. I do that for accountability and also so you may glean some ideas on how I allocate my capital. You have the opportunity to learn from what I do well, so you can do the same, as well as what I do poorly, so you will not have to repeat my mistakes.

Net cash inflow was $4313.15 during this period. Factoring out the cash inflow, my portfolio returned -3.59% in June.
Purchases
Most of my investments this month were to my monthly stock purchase plans. I did participate in the IPO of Teladoc (TDOC) on June 30 via loyal3. It was fortuitous that I happened to be on my computer on Mon 6/22/2015 11:18 AM when I got loyal3's email notification that Teladoc IPO enrollment was open. Fortuitous because I don't typically get to read my email in time to reserve for loyal3's IPOs in the past. They tend to be gone very quickly, the more recent ones less than an hour after it becomes available. I skimmed through Teladoc's prospectus quickly and was dismayed by how poor its financial health was: consistently losing money, negative book value, negative cash flow, etc. I reserved $1000 anyway, because IPO tends to be priced so there is a pop on the first trading day. I did not reserve the full $10000 maximum because I was afraid that I could get the entire allocation and not get a pop. Big mistake. Reserving the max possible as soon as a loyal3 IPO becomes available, then selling on day one is the only viable strategy to play this game, as I soon learned the hard way. On June 30, TDOC was priced at $19 per share, and I got an allocation for only $292.95, or 29% of my original allocation.

Sales
TDOC opened for trading the next day, July 1, at $29.90, a 57% pop, and reached a high of $31.90. Having no faith in this company, as I expect continued erosion of shareholder value and the stock was outrageously overpriced, I immediately put in sell order, eventually getting out at $29.52/share. So I made $161.15 in this trade. Not bad, but I could have done much better. Most IPOs have opening pops, and loyal3 IPOs have performed very well in the past. I should not have hesitated to reserve the full $10000 max. From what I heard, that would yield a 22% allocation, or $2200, which would have made me $1210 instead. By being timid, I incurred an opportunity cost of $1049.
