Portfolio Update September 2016: Net Worth Up 0.34% to $823,112.74

The time has come for my monthly portfolio update. At the end of every month, I will update my portfolio and comment on any changes. I do that for accountability and also so you may glean some ideas on how I allocate my capital. You have the opportunity to learn from what I do well, so you can do the same, as well as what I do poorly, so you will not have to repeat my mistakes.

Purchases
This month, I initiated 4 new positions and added significant amounts to a handful of others, most of which are attractively priced stocks near 52-week low with low dividend payout. Total bought this month amounted to $26,154.60. This brought my cash in brokerage accounts down to 25K. I have another 15K bonus coming next month, which will make next month another busy month for purchases.

I also opened a wisebanyan account with a $1 deposit (which resulted in the small VTI, VEA, and VWO purchases), accepting their offer of $15 bonus if auto-deposit $10/month for 6 months. That is an annualized return of 25% after 6 months, so not a bad deal.

Sales
No significant sales this month.

Portfolio turnover was 3.25% in September.

Income & Expenses For August 2016

Since 2014, I have been tracking my monthly income and expenses. You can see a breakdown of every penny I earn and spend. For perspective, this budget is for a household of two in a small US city. By documenting my journey, I aim to demonstrate the feasibility of saving a significant portion of your income and provide some ideas and inspirations for your own budget.

Below is my income and expenses for August 2016. You can see all my monthly budgets here.

Income
Wages remain my primary source of income by far.
Dividend income $1300.95 is up from last month, and is more than I need to cover my expenses.

Here is a chart of my dividend income by month for the past 13 months:
Total dividends for the trailing twelve months: $13,240.31, up 18% from $11,240.59 in August last year.

Expense
Overall expense is higher this month due to payment of $133.72 for 6-mo car insurance renewal. This insurance premium is an 7.8% increase over $123.93 six months ago. O well, not much I can do about it, and I'm just glad it's still much lower than the national average.

Total expenses for the trailing twelve months: $9,697.71.
Dividend to expense coverage ratio = 1.37, a slight decrease from last month.

Savings
My after tax saving rate was 92.13% for the month of August, which is around average for me. I expect to meet or exceed my 90% savings goal this year.
